The ship is carrying a probe loaded with an anti-matter bomb that has to be shot into the heart of the Sun and, if successful, will trigger the mega-flare in a direction safely away from the Earth. King Kong

(12)

It is 1933, and vaudeville actress Ann Darrow (Oscar nominee Naomi Watts) has found herself - like so many other New Yorkers during the Great Depression - without the means to earn a living. Unwilling to compromise and allow herself to sink into a career in burlesque, she considers her limited options while aimlessly wandering the streets of Manhattan. When her hunger drives her to unsuccessfully try to steal an apple from a fruit vendor's stall, she is rescued - literally - by filmmaker and multiple hyphenate Carl Denham (Jack Black).

It seems that the entrepreneur-raconteur-adventurer is no stranger to theft, having that day lifted the only existing print of his most recent and unfinished film from under his studio executives' noses when they threatened to pull his completion funds. Carl has until the end of the day to get his crew onboard the Singapore-bound tramp steamer, the S.S. Venture, in hopes of completing his travelogue/action film. With that, the showman is certain he will finally achieve the personal greatness he knows awaits him around the corner - and although the crew believe that corner to be Singapore, Denham actually hopes to find and capture on film the mysterious place of legend: Skull Island.

Unfortunately for Carl, his headlining actress has pulled out of his project, but his search for a size-four leading lady (the costumes have all been made) has, fatefully, led him to Ann. The struggling actress is reluctant to sign on with Denham, until she learns that the up-and-coming, socially relevant playwright Jack Driscoll (Oscar winner Adrien Brody) is penning the screenplay - the fees his friend Carl pays for potboiling adventure are a welcome supplement to Driscoll's nominal income from his stage plays.

With his newly discovered star and coerced screenwriter reluctantly onboard, Denham's 'moving picture ship' heads out of New York Harbor... and toward a destiny that none aboard could possibly foresee...

Thomas Kretschmann, Colin Hanks, Andy Serkis, Evan Parke, Jamie Bell, Lobo Chan, John Sumner, Craig Hall, Kyle Chandler, Bill Johnson, Mark Hadlow, Geraldine Brophy.

Great movie, Peter Jackson has made a remake to Hollywood blockbuster. If you have yet seen this movie your missing out on an excellent remake.

The Reader

(15)

The Reader begins in Germany shortly after the end of WW2 when teenager Michael Berg (David Kross) becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna (Kate Winslet), a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair.

Michael (Ralph Fiennes) discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Hanna is enthralled as Michael reads to her from 'The Odessey', 'Huck Finn' and 'The Lady With The Little Dog.' Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken.

Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life - this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hann's past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will impact both of their lives. The Reader is a haunting story about truth and reconciliation, about how one generation comes to terms with the crimes of another.

Jeanette Hains, Susanne Lothar, Alissa Wilms, Florian Batholomai, Friederike Becht, Matthias Habich, Frieder Venus, Marie-Anne Fliegel, Hendrik Arnst.

This is a great movie which reveals how early experiences affect someones life. This movie raises important moral questions which are incredibly difficult to answer. A truly must see movie.

She's safe now. Safe from the hordes of screaming, grasping fans. Safe from demanding kooks who pop up unexpectedly. Safe from the unknown killer stalking her every move. She's in the arms of The Bodyguard.

Hurtling toward the signal's source are a fearless captain (Laurence Fishburne), his elite crew and the lost ship's designer (Sam Neill).

Little Women 1945

(U)

Meg (Janet Leigh), Josephine (June Allyson), Amy (Elizabeth Taylor) and Beth (Margaret O'Brien) are the little women who, together with their mother, keep the home fires burning while their preacher father (Leon Ames) serves with the Union army during the Civil War. Meg, the eldest, is a second mother to the troupe while "Jo", the tomboy, takes on the role of man of the house. Amy yearns for the good things in life, and Beth, the youngest and frailest of the four, seeks comfort in gentle music. A simple tale of four young girls coming to womanhood. This is a great summary but, I wanted to mention that Beth is not the youngest March sister - Amy is. The order is Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy.

Peter Lawford, Mary Astor, Lucile Watson, C. Aubrey Smith, Elizabeth Patterson, Harry Davenport, Richard Wyler, Connie Gilchrist, Ellen Corby.

This is my all time favourite classic movies, just love this movie its well better the remake in 1994 with Winona Ryder. Its just fantastic!!!

But no one's more shocked than Milly, who discovers that she's now expected to cook and clean not only for Adam but for his six rowdy brothers too! Well, Milly's no pushover, and soon she has those boisterous boys whipped into "groomhood" and dancing for joy over six brides of their own!

South Pacific

(U)

Can a girl from Little Rock find happiness with a mature French planter she got to know one enchanted evening away from the military hospital where she is a nurse? Or should she just wash that man out of her hair? Bloody Mary (Juanita Hall) is the philosopher of the island and it's hard to believe she could be the mother of Liat who has captured the heart of Lt. Joseph Cable USMC (John Kerr). While waiting for action in the war in the South Pacific, sailors and nurses put on a musical comedy show. The war gets closer and the saga of Nellie Forbush (Mitzi Gaynor) and Emile de Becque (Rossano Brazzi) becomes serious drama.

Ray Walston, France Nuyen, Russ Brown, Floyd Simmons, Tom Laughlin, Jack Mullaney, Ken Clark, Archie Savage, Candace Lee, Warren Hsieh, Francis Kahele.

Watched this when I was younger and this was a really great movie. Thought the story line was good, not to sure about the music though, as I'm not really into musicals. Not to keen on the ending but all in all a good movie!!!

Fiddler On The Roof

(U)

An outstanding accomplishment in every way, this lavishly produced and critically acclaimed screen adaptation of the international stage sensation tells the life-affirming story of Tevye (Topol), a poor milkman whose love, pride and faith help him face the oppression of turn-of-the-century Tsarist Russia. Nominated eight Academy Awards (1971), including Best Picture and Best Director and featuring such classic songs as "If I were a rich man", "Matchmaker" and "Sunrise, Sunset", Fiddler on the Roof is a universal story of hope, love and acceptance - a musical masterpiece.

West Side Story

(PG)

Garnering a total of ten Academy Awards - including Best Picture of 1961 - West Side Story set a brilliant standard for movie musicals that remains unsurpassed to this day. Directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins from Ernest Lehman's spectacular screenplay, the film combines the unforgettable score of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim with Robbins' exuberant choreography to create a transcendent fusion of realism and fantasy that will forever be a feast for the eye, the ear, and ultimately, the heart. A triumph on every level, this electrifying musical sets the ageless tragedy of Romeo and Juliet against a backdrop of gang warfare in the slums of 1950's New York.

Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, George Chakiris, Simon Oakland, Ned Glass, William Bramley, Tucker Smith, Tony Mordente, David Winters, Eliot Feld.

I remember watch this when I was younger with my mum & dad and thought it was fantastic. All the music, fun, and excitement under the sea resurface in this magical, special edition of Disney's 28th animated masterpiece. Awash with breathtaking animation, unforgettably colourful characters, and two Academy Awards for score and song, "Under The Sea," The Little Mermaid is one of Disney's most cherished films. Ariel (Jodi Benson), the fun-loving and mischievous mermaid, is enchanted with all things human.

Disregarding her father's order to stay away from the world above the sea, she swims to the surface and, in a raging storm, rescues the prince of her dreams. Determined to be human, she strikes a bargain with the devious sea witch, Ursula (Pat Carroll), and trades her fins and beautiful voice for legs. With her best friend, the adorable and chatty Flounder (Jason Marin), and her reluctant chaperone Sebastian (Samuel E. Wright), the hilarious, reggae-singing Caribbean crab, at her side, Ariel must win the prince's love and save her father's kingdom -- all in a heart-pounding race against time!
