The Omen 3

(18)

The power of evil no longer rests in the hands of a child...

Damien Thorn (Sam Neill) has helped rescue the world from a recession, appearing to be a benign corporate benefactor. When he then becomes U.S Ambassador to England, Damien fulfills a terrifying biblical prophecy. He also faces his own potential demise as an astronomical event brings about the second coming of Christ.

Determined to thwart his holy arch-nemesis, as well as a group of priests intent on killing him, Damien begins his most destructive rampage yet...

Not as good as the first 2 but still worth the watch if you have seen the other to!!!

The Omen 2

(18)

The first time was only a warning...

Since the sudden and highly suspicious death of his parents, 12-year-old Damien has been in the charge of his wealthy aunt and uncle (Lee Grant and William Holden).

Widely feared to be the Antichrist, Damien relentlessly plots to seize control of his uncle's business empire - and the world. Meanwhile, anyone attempting to unravel the secrets of Damien's sinister past or fiendish future meets with a swift and cruel demise.

In this chilling sequel to 'The Omen', the forces of good and evil battle each other to a taut and terrifying end!

The sequel to the 1976 smash The Omen, is predictable and lightweight but really quite enjoyable. Damien is now a teenager and is being sent with his cousin to school for another year. During the following term, Damien discover's his true identity, is responsible for several wonderfully inventive death sequences and is generally beneath all these quibbles a nice guy.

The Omen

(18)

He was born at 6am on the 6th day of the 6th month. The coming of Armageddon, the site of the final confrontation between the forces of good and evil, as foretold in the Book of Revelations, will begin with the birth of the son of Satan - in human form.

Unable to tell his wife Katherine the tragic news of their still-born son, American diplomat Robert Thorn accepts a new-born orphan as his son. Details of the child's birth remain a secret, but as the boy Damien grows older, it becomes apparent that he is no ordinary child. As mysterious deaths and strange warnings occur, Robert Thorn slowly becomes aware of the hideous evil behind the child's innocent face and the significance of the numbers 666, which bring about the most terrifying of revelations.

Excellent movie, which really makes you want to believe in God!! Builds great suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat til the very end.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory

(PG)

Acclaimed director Tim Burton brings his vividly imaginative style to the beloved Roald Dahl classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, about eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp) and Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore), a good-hearted boy from a poor family who lives in the shadow of Wonka's extraordinary factory.

Most nights in the Bucket home, dinner is a watered-down bowl of cabbage soup, which young Charlie gladly shares with his mother (Helena Bonham Carter) and father (Noah Taylor) and both pairs of grandparents. Theirs is a tiny, tumbledown, drafty old house but it is filled with love. Every night, the last thing Charlie sees from his window is the great factory, and he drifts off to sleep dreaming about what might be inside.

For nearly fifteen years, no one has seen a single worker going in or coming out of the factory, or caught a glimpse of Willy Wonka himself, yet, mysteriously, great quantities of chocolate are still being made and shipped to shops all over the world.

One day Willy Wonka makes a momentous announcement. He will open his famous factory and reveal "all of its secrets and magic" to five lucky children who find golden tickets hidden inside five randomly selected Wonka chocolate bars.

Nothing would make Charlie's family happier than to see him win but the odds are very much against him as they can only afford to buy one chocolate bar a year, for his birthday.

Indeed, one by one, news breaks around the world about the children finding golden tickets and Charlie's hope grows dimmer. First there is gluttonous Augustus Gloop, who thinks of nothing but stuffing sweets into his mouth all day, followed by spoiled Veruca Salt, who throws fits if her father doesn't buy her everything she wants. Next comes Violet Beauregarde, a champion gum chewer who cares only for the trophies in her display case, and finally surly Mike Teavee, who's always showing off how much smarter he is than everyone else.

But then, something wonderful happens. Charlie finds some money on the snowy street and takes it to the nearest store for a Wonka Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight, thinking only of how hungry he is and how good it will taste. There, under the wrapper is a flash of gold. It's the last ticket. Charlie is going to the factory! His Grandpa Joe (David Kelly) is so excited by the news that he springs out of bed as if suddenly years younger, remembering a happier time when he used to work in the factory, before Willy Wonka closed its gates to the town forever. The family decides that Grandpa Joe should be the one to accompany Charlie on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

I'm old enough to remember watching the original adaptation 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' with Gene Wilder, as a wide eyed child, and so I wasn't expecting much from this movie as I knew what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this film. It's the same story of Charlie and his golden ticket but told in a completely different way.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

(U)

It's everybody's non-pollutionary, anti-institutionary, pro-confectionery factory of fun!

Thirty-five years after this merry movie charmed audiences with a colourful mix of song, humour and life lessons, the Candy Man still wields magic, especially now in a vibrant new print with a soundtrack in true stereo.

From the classic Roald Dahl story comes a lip-smacking delight with jolly tunes, among them The Candy Man and Pure Imagination. With a golden ticket young Charlie Bucket (Peter Ostrum) wins a tour of the factory of wily mogul Wonka (Gene Wilder) and run by his Oompa-Loompa crew. There Charlie, his Grandpa Joe (Jack Albertson) and others discover a kind heart is a finer possession than a sweet tooth. Don't let the tour leave without you!

Gene Wilder is brilliant in this movie, and the emphasis is more on him, rather than the books version being centered on Charlie. The story line is great too, its about greed, selfishness and dreams coming true!!! Highly recommended for anybody of any age!

Men in Black II

(PG)

Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are back in black as the scum-fighting super-agents Kay and Jay - regulators of all things alien on planet earth. Their latest mission: to save the world from a total intergalactic disaster!

When a renegade Kylothian monster disguised as a lingerie model threatens thesurvival of the human race, the boys of the MIB get the call to step up and get busy. With their headquarters under siege and time running out, Agents Kay and Jay enlist the help of Frank the Pug anda posse of hard-living worms to help them kick some seriously sexy alien butt!

I though MIB 2 was a great movie! The humour is intelligent and not dumbed down (may explain a thing or two) and Will Smith gives an Oscar worthy performance. This movie is not just about vacant special effects and mindless fast paced action sequences it has a cleverly written script and the comic timing is superb. I loved the first movie but I have to say I thought this one was in a class of it's own.

Men in Black

(PG)

Secret agents 'K' (Tommy Lee Jones) and 'J' (Will Smith) work for a highly funded yet unofficial government agency which tracks civilisation-infiltrating extraterrestrial.

K and J must prevent an alien terrorist (Vincent D'Onofrio) from assassinating two galactic ambassadors, on Earth for a conference, dooming the Earth to certain destruction.

Go behind the scenes of Men in Black and experience a universe of special features exclusive to this collectible DVD!

Great sci-fi comedy from 1997; Will Smith is at his wisecracking best and Tommy Lee Jones complements him perfectly as the red-necked Southern veteran of the mysterious MIB. Great fun, superb effects, and some laugh out loud moments - never dull.

Innerspace

(PG)

Action-comedy-adventure tale, in which a hell-raising Navy test pilot (Quaid) is miniaturised for a top secret journey inside a laboratory rabbit, but instead is injected into a hypochondriac supermarket clerk (Short) who cannot understand what is happening to his body...

Miniaturise a submarine and inject it into a human body, complete with Dennis Quaid at the wheel. Clever storyline and clever effects as we travel through veins, major organs and eventually out an ear hole. Great fun for kids and adults alike.

Flight Of The Navigator

(U)

A 12 year-old boy is mysteriously abducted by an alien space craft and returns to Earth eight years later, still only 12. He now has great navigational powers, which enable him to fly his spaceship anywhere he desires.

A great movie, every sci-fi or 80's fan should have it on their shelves at home! It holds a great storyline along with good music, and a barrel of laughs, action and suspense! Enjoy!

The Pacifier

(PG)

Vin Diesel redefines what it means to be an action hero in the heartwarming family action-comedy The Pacifier'!

Diesel stars as Navy SEAL Shane Wolfe, who as an elite member of the world's fiercest and most highly trained force thought he was prepared to take on any duty no matter how perilous or impossible... until he tried baby-sitting. Assigned to protect the five out-of-control children of an assassinated scientist working on vital government secrets, Shane is suddenly faced with juggling two outrageously incompatible jobs: fighting the bad guys while keeping house.

Replacing his usual arsenal of wetsuits and weapons with diapers and juice boxes, Shane not only must battle a deceptive enemy but wrangle teen rebel Zoe (Brittany Snow), sullen 14 year-old Seth (Max Theriot), 8 year-old Ninja-wanna-be Lulu (Morgan York), as well as 3 year-old Peter and baby Tyler - not to mention their off-beat Romanian nanny (Carol Kane). But while drop zones, demolitions and destroying enemy targets come naturally to Shane, he has no idea what tough really is until he pits his courage against diapering, den-mothering and driver's education. He's truly a SEAL out of water, and now it's up to this one-time lone warrior to take on the most important mission of his life: keeping a family together!

I find this movie a great watch, it has lots of laughs, some good action scenes and a good storyline. Its a great movie for all the family. I would recommend it if you haven't seen it and you'll see Vin Diesel in a whole different light.

Airplane

(15)

Voted "one of the 10 funniest movies ever made" by the American Film Institute, Airplane! is a masterpiece of off-the-wall comedy. Featuring Robert Hays as an ex-fighter pilot forced to take over the controls of an airliner when the flight crew succumbs to food poisoning; Julie Hagerty as his girlfriend/ stewardess/ co-pilot; and a cast of all-stars including Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar...and more!

Their hilarious high jinks spook airplane disaster flicks, religious zealots, television commercials, romantic love...the list whirls by in rapid succession. And the story races from one moment of zany fun to the next!

Whoever wrote this movie was a genius! There is a funny moment in almost every minute.
One word - HILARIOUS!

The Polar Express

(U)

Santa Claus does not exist. Or does he? For one doubting boy (voice of Daryl Sabara & Tom Hanks), an astonishing event occurs. Late on Christmas Eve night, he lies in bed hoping to hear the sound of reindeer bells from Santa's sleigh. When to his surprise, a steam engine's roar and whistle can be heard outside his window. The conductor (also voiced of Tom Hanks) invites him on board to take an extraordinary journey to the North Pole with many other pajama-clad children. There, he receives an extraordinary gift only those who still believe in Santa can experience.

Lovely children's movie to watch at home in the run up to Christmas. Particularly suitable for slightly older children who are on the verge on becoming non-believers which is one of the themes of the story. Magical, snowy scenes, a kind-hearted Santa, lots of elves, deserving children and a heart-warming conclusion.

The Lawnmower Man

(15)

In this sci-fi thriller The lawnmower Man Pierce Brosnan plays Dr Lawrence Angelo, a brilliant scientist obsessed with perfecting a revolutionary Virtual reality computer software. When his experiments on animals fail, he finds the ideal substitute : Jobe Smith (Jeff Fahey), a slow witted gardener - "The Lawnmower Man".

Dr Angelo's goal is to benefit his human guinea pig and ultimately mankind itself. But evil lurks in the guise of "The Shop", a shadowy group that seeks to use the technology to create an invincible war machine. When the experiments change the simple Lawnmower Man into a superhuman being, the stage is set for a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde struggle for the control of Jobe's mind and the future of the world.

Considering the time this was made, the special effects were very good. I would recommend you watching just to see how really good this movie is!!

Space Truckers

(12)

They've shipped everything from square pigs to anti-gravity beer but now they've got a load of trouble!

Deep Space, 2196: John Canyon (Dennis Hopper) is a long distance trucker, a rebel and a loner. He refuses to join 'The Company' an iron-fisted outfit that controls intergalactic trucking.
In a desperate bid to stay in business, Canyon joins forces with young trucker, Mike Pucci (Stephen Dorff) and takes on a black market shipment of sealed containers bound for Earth. The contents are unknown and the papers are forged but the job pays five times the going rate. Plus there's a bonus; the gorgeous Cindy (Debi Mazar) has hitched a ride.

To make the due date, they abandon the usual shipping lanes and head for the Scum Cluster, a war zone of bandits and rogue asteroids. But whatever perils lie in store in the depths of space, nothing can prepare them for the deadly cargo that lies in the hold of their ship!

Really like this movie, it is so cheesy, the special effects, the plot, but it all comes together for a quality movie. The best bit has to be the captain rebuilding himself into a rather crappy cyborg, utter genius.

Look Who's Talking Now

(12)

The last film in the Look Who's Talking minifranchise goes to the dogs, literally, to keep the series' major gimmick intact--letting the audience hear the thoughts of the little newcomers in the Ubriacco family. The kids who were once babies in the two prior films can now babble for themselves, so the script finds the adult characters taking in two mutts who do a "Lady and the Tramp" thing while we listen in. Travolta (rescued a year later in 1994's Pulp Fiction) and Alley mark time while Danny De Vito and Diane Keaton provide the most entertainment performing the dogs' voices. Not awful, but not necessary either, and a long way from the small but real qualities of the first film.

This is the weakest Look who's talking movie. Whilst the escapades of the babies in the first two were witty and chuckle some, now that they have grown, the cute factor has diminished, and the dogs aren't quite up to it sadly. Still, if you like the Homeward bound movies, this may appeal to you. Fair enough as family entertainment.

Look Who's Talking Too

(12)

If nothing else, the powers that be behind this terrible sequel to the 1989 hit Look Who's Talking will be divinely punished for abusing John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" on the soundtrack. Until then, it's better to push memories of this movie to the back of one's memory. John Travolta and Kirstie Alley reprise their roles from the earlier film, but this time their married relationship is in trouble for sundry reasons. Adding to that complication is the arrival of a new baby (whined by Roseanne Barr) to join the previous one (quipped by Bruce Willis). Mel Brooks and Damon Wayans add their voices to those of some other kids, but this hastily patched-together follow-up wouldn't be funny no matter how may comic minds you threw in the mix. Between the shoddy script and miscasting of Barr, there's enough doom to go around in this thing, but an opening-credits sequence that manages, through crummy special effects, to turn a sperm's path toward an egg into a nauseating experience doesn't help. Stick with the original.

Look who's talking is really good but look who's talking too is just as good, Mikey is about two years old now and is now a big brother he does all his best but doesn't no what's best for Julie.

Look Who's Talking

(12)

Starring Kirstie Alley, John Travolta and the wise-cracking voice of Bruce Willis, Look Who's Talking is the box-office smash which takes an hilarious, off-beat look at motherhood and romance from baby Mikey's point of view. Led on and let down by boyfriend Albert (George Segal) 32 year old Mollie (Kirstie Alley) is looking for a proper father for her son.

Little Mikey favours cab driver-turned-baby-sitter, James (John Travolta). It's a case of baby knows best, but by the time he learns to talk, it could be too late!

John Travolta and Kirsty Alley are excellent in this movie. Kirsty Alley falls Pregnant and the movie focuses on the life of her son, Mikey(voice by Bruce Willis). The combination of these three actors means that the movie keeps you smiling all the way through. Watch this movie or you won't know what you are missing.

Premonition

(12)

They said it was an accident... But the reality is... It hasn't happened yet...

Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock) has a beautiful house, a loving husband and two adorable daughters. Her life is perfect, until the day she receives the devastating news that her husband, Jim (Julian McMahon), has died in a car accident. For this devoted wife and mother, it's the worst she could imagine. But did she imagine it? When Linda wakes up the following morning her husband is very much alive.

At first, Linda believes the accident must have been a nightmare. Then it happens again; some days Linda awakens to find Jim is next to her alive and well, while on others she awakens a widow. Inexplicably, she is living the days of her life out of order.

Linda's traumatizing premonition sets off a series of puzzling, time-altering events. Her world is turned upside down as the surreal circumstances lead her to discover that her perfect life may not have been all that it appeared. Desperate to save her family, Linda begins a furious race against time and fate to try and preserve everything she and Jim have built together.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. The rest of my family really enjoyed this movie. Sandra is amazing in the movie as always, learning fate the hard way.

Deja Vu

(12)

This dramatic American action thriller is the latest film from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott, and stars actors Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer, Paula Patton, Bruce Greenwood, Adam Goldberg and Jim Caviezel.

When a ferry filled with crewmen from the USS Nimitz and their families is blown up in New Orleans, Federal Agent Doug Carlin (Washington) is brought in to help with the investigation. He becomes attached to an experimental FBI surveillance unit that uses spacefolding technology to look back a little over four days into the past. While tracking down the bomber Carlin gets an idea in his head: could they use the device to actually travel back in time and not only prevent the bombing but also the murder of a local woman whose truck was used in the atrocity?

A very enjoyable movie. I have always been a Denzel Washington fan and as usual he acts superbly in this movie. The plot is very fictional if a bit unbelievable in parts. However the movie is still very enjoyable with a few twists and turns.

Las Vegas showroom magician Cris Johnson (Nicolas Cage) has a secret which is a gift and a curse which torments him: he can see a few minutes into the future. Sick of the examinations he underwent as a child and the interest of the government and medical establishment in his power, he lies low under an assumed name in Vegas, performing cheap tricks and living off small-time gambling 'winnings.' But when a terrorist group threatens to detonate a nuclear device in Los Angeles, government agent Callie Ferris (Julianne Moore) must use all her wiles to capture Cris and convince him to help her stop the cataclysm. (Jessica Biel)

Based on the novel 'The Golden Man' by Philip K Dick.

The movie is great and I enjoyed it from start to finish just a great movie for a night in, take away & good wine.

Sunshine

(15)

Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel. There is an accident, a fatal mistake, and a distress beacon from a spaceship that disappeared seven years earlier. Soon the crew is fighting not only for their lives, but their sanity.

Firstly the movie is great, Secondly its a genuinely interesting story. It doesn't matter that you can see elements of 2001 or Silent Running. There are certain things you expect from a genre and just like westerns or thrillers certain themes in Sci-Fi are bound to reappear. You have to admire Danny Boyle's interesting take on the genre, the ending is confusing but its still better than 99% of most movies of this kind. The effects are state of the art and the soundtrack is great!!!!

The Time Machine 2002

(PG)

This adaptation of the classic sci-fi adventure tale by H.G. Wells, directed by Simon Wells (the great-grandson of the author), stars Guy Pearce as Alex Hartdegen, an absent-minded New York professor preoccupied with what passes for technology at the turn of the 20th century. However, the one thing that can distract him from his calculations is his love for Emma (Sienna Guillory), his bride-to-be. When tragedy strikes and he loses Emma, Alex uses the time-travelling machine that he's built in secret to change the present by going into the past. When that fails to alter fate, he leaps forward in time, eventually landing 800,000 years in the future, an era where humanity has splintered into two races--the docile Eloi and the ferocious Morlocks. There Alex befriends two of the Eloi (Samantha and Omero Mumba) and attempts to help them resist almost certain death at the hands of the Morlocks.

Like Pearce's character, this version of the novel is fascinated with technology and uses a daunting array of special effects. The fast-paced film was apparently not made without incident--Wells reportedly had a nervous breakdown during the shoot and was temporarily replaced by director Gore Verbinski (THE MEXICAN) for some scenes.

The time machine, directed by the great grandson of H G WELLS. Simon Wells here makes a good remake of the Time Machine. You all probably know the ending, specially if you have read the book, or seen the original movie. But Simon wells here concentrates on the emotional loss of the doctors girlfriend, and how using the time machine he looks for answers, to why it has happened to him. The reliable Guy piece does well, the special effects and sound on dvd is very good. Co star Samantha Mumba does very well in her debut movie. All in all a film well worth a purchase, I enjoyed very much. ONE OF THE BEST REMAKES YOU WILL SEE.

The Time Machine 1960

(PG)

Here today, gone to tomorrow. When George (Rod Taylor) sits at the controls of his new creation, he has all the time in the world. He's invented a Time Machine that whisks him from 1899 to war ravaged moments of the 20th century and into 802701. In that far-off era, passive Eloi face a grim future as prey to the glowing subterranean Morlocks...unless the time-traveling stranger from the past intervenes.

At the controls of the movie H.G. Wells' classic The Time Machine (now digitally restored and remastered) is effects trailblazer George Pal, whose features and short films won a combined seven Oscars and Special Awards. One winner was this beloved adventure loaded with visual marvels, from the nuclear destruction of London (complete with lava eruption) to the colorful whirligig of time travel.

I absolutely love this film.
I first saw it when I was a teenager and appreciate it more and more the more often I watch it. Considering it is from 1960 the special effects are great. But it is more about the story. These days movies are all about special effects and get spoiled. It is great to see how things actually happen in faster time rather than just instantly go to the new place in time.
Excellent film indeed.
