The Transporter 3

(15)

Combining Western-style car chases and Hong Kong-inspired fight sequences choreographed by martial arts legend Cory Yuen, the Luc Besson-created TRANSPORTER films have found international success as a sort of working-class James Bond series. Jason Statham, who has become the go-to guy for big-budget B-movie thrills, returns once again as Frank Martin, the driver-for-hire for whom no job is too risky. Brimming with the usual jaw-dropping stunts, this is another crowd-pleasing entry in the saga, delivered at a brisk and flashy clip by director Olivier Megaton. Following the coercion of Ukrainian environmental official Leonid Vasilev (Jeroen Krabbe) into signing papers permitting the shipping of toxic materials into a harbour by criminal mastermind Johnson (Robert Knepper), Frank Martin is forced into accepting the job of driving Vasilev's kidnapped daughter, Valentina (Natalya Rudakova)--acting as human collateral--from Marseilles to the Black Sea coastal city of Odessa. On the chance the Martin should attempt to flee, Johnson has rigged him with a bracelet that will detonate if he strays more than 75 feet from his car. When Valentina is intercepted by a rival group, Martin will have to push his Audi M8 to the limit to complete his mission and ensure his own survival.

Transporter 3 is an awesome movie. Great action, good storyline and sexy Jason Statham. What more can one ask for.

The Transporter 2

(15)

Professional driver (and ultimate mercenary) Frank Martin (Statham) is now living in Miami, where he is temporarily filling in for a friend as the chauffeur for a government narcotics control policymaker and his family. When the young boy in the family is kidnapped and Frank is implicated in the crime, it's time to hit the road to preserve his professional reputation, outwit the pursuing cops and expose the kidnappers using any and all explosive methods at his disposal!

This movie is absolutely fantastic, it is full of action as you would expect and you can't wait too see what happens next. It really is a must movie to watch if you like action packed movies.

The Transporter

(15)

Ex-Special Forces operator Frank Martin (Jason Statham) lives what seems to be a quiet life along the French Mediterranean, hiring himself out as a mercenary "transporter" who moves goods - human or otherwise - from one place to another. No questions asked.

Carrying out mysterious and sometimes dangerous tasks in his tricked-out BMW, Frank adheres to a strict set of rules, which he never breaks. Rule One: Never change the deal. Rule Two: No names - Frank doesn't want to know whom he's working for, or what he's transporting. Rule Three: Never look in the package.

Frank's newest transport seems no different from the countless ones he's done in the past. He has been hired by an American known only as "Wall Street" (see Rule Two) to make a delivery, but when Frank stops along route, he notices his "package" is moving. Violating Rule Three, Frank looks inside the bag, finding its contents to be a beautiful, gagged woman.

Frank's steadfast adherence to his other two rules - which make up his basic code of survival - also quickly falls, hurtling him and his new companion on a road leading to shocking secrets, deadly complications, and the last thing Frank ever expected to come to believe: that rules are made to be broken. -- © 20th Century Fox

This movie was fantastic, it was full of action, had a really good story line and an added bonus of humour. If you want to watch a really good movie that will keep your attention then this is the movie for you.

Five Children and It

(U)

Written by E.Nesbit, author of 'The Railway Children', this is the movie of five childrens' chance encounter with 'The Psammead' - an ancient, extremely irritable, sand fairy who has the ability to make wishes come. The only problem is that the wishes only last till sunset and the children also find it hard to think of sensible wishes!

Watched this with my daughter thought it was really funny, we both enjoyed it!!!

The Borrowers

(U)

The Borrowers follows the adventures of the dauntless tiny Clock family, parents Pod (Jim Broadbent), Homily (Celia Imrie) and their kids Peagreen and Arrietty - a family of tiny four inch tall people who live under the floorboards of a big house, surviving by "borrowing" from the "Human Bean" family upstairs. The Borrowers turn dental floss into tightropes, toaster handles into catapults, socks into beds, stamps into wall posters, and when their world is facing extinction - in the form of Ocious P. Potter (John Goodman) their resourcefulness knows no bounds.

This movie was really funny and makes you look at everything from a different perspective!
It basically makes you want to be a borrower! Definitely worth watching.

Nanny McPhee

(U)

Emma Thompson, whose first screenplay won the 1995 Oscar® for Sense and Sensibility, returns to screenwriting with Nanny McPhee, a motion picture adaptation of the "Nurse Matilda" books by Christianna Brand. Thompson, the only person to have won Oscars® for both acting and writing, also plays the title role in Nanny McPhee, opposite Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald and - in her first role for the big screen in two decades - Angela Lansbury.

In this dark and witty fable, Thompson portrays a person of unsettling appearance and magical powers who enters the household of the recently widowed Mr. Brown (Firth) and attempts to tame his seven exceedingly ill-behaved children. The children, led by the oldest boy Simon (Love Actually's Thomas Sangster), have managed to drive away 17 previous nannies and are certain that they will have no trouble with this one. But as Nanny McPhee takes control, they begin to notice that their vile behavior now leads swiftly and magically to rather startling consequences.

Her influence also extends to the family's deeper problems, including Mr. Brown's sudden and seemingly inexplicable attempts to find a new wife; an announcement by the domineering Aunt Adelaide (Angela Lansbury) that she intends to take one of the children away; and the sad and secret longings of their scullery maid, Evangeline (Kelly Macdonald). As the children's behavior begins to change, Nanny McPhee's arresting face and frame appear to change as well, creating even more questions about this mysterious stranger whom the children and their father have come to love.

This movie was great. Made me laugh all the way through. Fantastic acting by all the cast and a real feel good movie.

Angela's Ashes

(15)

Angela's Ashes, the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir, comes to life in this stirring film from acclaimed director Alan Parker (Evita) starring Academy Award-nominee Emily Watson (Breaking The Waves) and Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty).

Life in impoverished Depression-era Ireland holds little promise for young Frank McCourt, the oldest son in a tightly knit family. Living by his wits, cheered by his irrepressible spirit, and sustained by his mother's fierce love, Frank embarks on an inspiring journey to overcome the poverty of his childhood and reach the land of his dreams: America.

A moving, sad movie I have ever seen. So brilliant and life like. Once I read the book, I had to see the movie, it was as true to the book as a movie can get. Thought they might of done 'Tis as movie but they never did!!!

Michael

He may be a grubby party animal who knows his way around a dance floor, but Michael is very much an angel. And with John Travolta in the title role, 'Michael' is very much a divine romantic comedy, directed by Nora Ephron.

William Hurt, Andie MacDowell and Robert Pastorelli are writers sent by boss Bob Hoskins to get an exclusive on the heavenly visitor. The journalists want a page-one scoop. But their subject has a far more joyous and life-affirming plan in mind...

A really great movie watch this every time its on tv even though I have the DVD in my collection. Has a really great storyline, with some really funny parts, that made me laugh!!!

Reservoir Dogs

(18)

Quentin Tarantino rocked the film world with this powerful and controversial debut movie.

Set mainly in a warehouse in the aftermath of a bungled robbery the story gradually unfolds to introduce the colour-coded gangsters and the planning of the crime step by step, through Tarantino's trademark flashbacks. Four have survived after a police ambush - betrayed. What went wrong and who is the betrayer?

Brilliantly scripted and complemented by the 70's retro soundtrack, the scenes are stylish and violent yet intelligent and full of dark humour. With stunning performances by Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi and Michael Madsen, 'Reservoir Dogs' is a tense and exciting examination of male ego on a collision course that results in an unforgettable climax.

This is a fantastic movie, Tarantino first movies and one of his best. If you haven't yet seen I would recommend you watch it!!!

The Departed

(18)

A big-budget Hollywood star power remake of the Hong Kong classic crime thriller Infernal Affairs.

Two men operate on different sides of the law; one a mole with the Boston State Police department, the other within the Irish mafia. When bloodshed breaks out on the streets, each mole is despatched to discover the other's identity in a race against time...

Marty finally collected the Best Director statuette at the 2007 Oscars after decades of bad luck. Not only that but the Departed also picked up awards for Best Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best film!

A must see film but not Scorsese's best. Nicholson is a joy to watch in every scene he appears in. In all a great performance from an all star cast.

Taken

(18)

Liam Neeson is an unstoppable force in this adrenaline-fuelled thriller from director Pierre Morel. Bryan (Neeson) has taken early retirement from the CIA in order to live closer to his teenage daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace). Bryan's government work kept him away from Kim for much of her childhood, and he's now trying to make up for lost time. When Kim announces that she's taking a trip to Paris with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy), Bryan is apprehensive about her travelling on her own. His worst fear is soon realized, as Kim and Amanda are abducted upon their arrival in France. Bryan immediately springs into action, using his well-honed CIA skills to piece together clues from a single, frantic phone call he received from Kim. He hops a plane to Paris, determined to rescue his daughter before she falls off the grid completely. With some help from his old CIA buddies, he tracks down the kidnappers--an Albanian crime ring known for selling young girls into the sex trade. He quickly takes matters into his own hands, plowing his way through Paris's underworld as the clock ticks down and the bullets fly. His search propels him into the upper echelons of a massive crime ring, putting him closer and closer to his beloved daughter.

Neeson is known for tackling extremely cerebral roles, so it is interesting to see him in full-on action-hero mode. In TAKEN he is no less than a crime-fighting machine--a Bourne/Bond hybrid with a deathly serious baritone. And while he spends most of the film firing Uzis and snapping necks, he still manages to deliver a moving performance as an estranged father fighting for what he loves most in the world. The film undeniably owes a lot to Neeson's acting chops. He manages to raise this rather thinly plotted, deeply violent film a bar above your typical action fare.

This is a fantastic movie. This movie certainly highlighted points (actions) that other films like this would not show. The actors were fantastic and it was not predictable. Truly an emotional movie for myself. Literally kept on the edge of your seat through out the whole movie.

Touching the Void

(15)

Kevin Macdonald's excellent BAFTA-award winning docu-drama (and Evening Standard Film Of The Year 2004), based on Joe Simpson's best-selling book, details the risks that climbers will take to conquer the rocky challenges before them in recounting a climbing expedition gone horribly wrong. The gripping, inspiring film combines dramatic reconstructions of the potentially fatal climb and interviews with the two men it nearly killed.

This is an amazing movie. I've seen it several times, once it came out on DVD I bought it.

American Beauty

(18)

Marking the feature film directorial debut of award-winning theatre director Sam Mendes, this funny, moving and shocking journey through life in suburban America follows the trials and tribulations of Lester (Kevin Spacey) and Carolyn (Annette Bening), an upper-middle-class couple whose marriage - and lives - are slowly unraveling. Lester's wife hates him, his daughter Jane regards him with contempt, and his boss is positioning him for the axe. So Lester decides to make a few changes in his life; the freer he gets, the happier he gets, which is even more maddening to his wife and daughter. But Lester is about to learn that the ultimate freedom comes at the ultimate price. Winner of five Academy Awards: Best Picture, Director, Actor, Screenplay and Cinematography.

Wow this movie really took my breath away after watching it for the first time. The script is rock solid and brings so much depth, hilarity and realism to the characters its unbelievable. So many classic moments in the movie its impossible for me to bring just one up. Aside from the black humour, American Beauty portraits suburb America closer than ever before not sacrificing any stabs at its way of life. You must see this movie, you'll thank me later.

Seven Pounds

(12)

From Gabriele Muccino, the Director of The Pursuit Of Happyness comes Seven Pounds. Will Smith stars as Ben, an IRS agent who is depressed and guilt-ridden about mistakes from his past. He sets out to make amends by helping seven strangers. When he meets Emily (Rosario Dawson), a beautiful woman with a heart condition, he falls in love with her, thereby complicating his plans. Woody Harrelson also appears as a blind pianist who befriends Ben.

This movie is extremely predictable, you know what is going to happen from about five minutes in, but the movie sets itself up to be this way. Even though you know the ending, you are still eager to see it. There are some very moving scenes in this mvoie, Will Smith is amazing, it even had me nearly crying at the end.

Saving Private Ryan

(15)

Seen through the eyes of a squad of American soldiers, the story begins with World War II's historic D-Day invasion, then moves beyond the beach as the men embark on a dangerous special mission. Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) must take his men behind enemy lines to find Private James Ryan, whose three brothers have been killed in combat. Faced with impossible odds, the men question their orders. Why are eight men risking their lives to save just one? Surrounded by the brutal realities of war, each man searches for his own answer - and the strength to triumph over an uncertain future with honour, decency and courage.

This has to be one of the best WWII movies out there, I would highly recommend you watch it if you haven't yet seen it.

Pulp Fiction

(18)

Girls like me don't make invitations like this to just anyone!

A spectacular mix of explosive action and wickedly funny humor - critics and audiences worldwide have hailed Pulp Fiction as the star studded movie event of 1994! Popular writer/director Quentin Tarantino delivers an unforgettable cast of characters - including a pair of low-rent hit men, their boss's sexy wife and a desperate, last-chance prizefighter - in a wildly entertaining big-screen adventure that will both thrill and amuse! It's fresh and exhilarating motion picture experience that's unlike anything else you have ever seen!

I'll never understand why this movie walked away with all the awards it got and was so hyped. PULP FICTION does not live up to any such expectations. Supposedly cool it is just senseless banter most of the time, not really funny but utterly ridiculous, with sudden explosions of violence.

Schindlers List

(15)

Schindler's List, a Steven Spielberg film, is a cinematic masterpiece that has become one of the most honoured films of all time.

Winner of seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, it also won every major Best Picture award and an exceptional number of additional honours. Among them were seven British Academy Awards, the Best Picture Awards from the New York Film Critics Circle, the National Society of Film Critics, the National Board of Review, the Producers Guild, the Los Angeles Film Critics, the Chicago, Boston and Dallas Film Critics, a Christopher Award, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Golden Globe Awards. Steven Spielberg was further honoured with the Directors Guild of America Award.

The film presents the indelible true story of the enigmatic Oskar Schindler, a member of the Nazi party, womanizer and war profiteer who saved the lives of more than 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust. It is the triumph of one man who made a difference, and the drama of those who survived one of the darkest chapters in human history because of what he did.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film, which also won Academy Awards for Screenplay, Cinematography, Music, Editing and Art Direction, stars an acclaimed cast headed by Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes, Caroline Goodall, Jonathan Sagalle and Embeth Davidtz. Featuring new digitally enhanced pictures and brand new bonus material.

This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest and most heart wrenching moving movie I have ever seen. Spielberg lends his mastery of film making to do great justice to the true story of Oskar Shindler, a memer of the Nazi party who saved more than 11 thousand jews during the holocaust and the suffering of the Jews during the second world war.

The Exorcism Of Emily Rose

(15)

Based on the true story of Anneliese Michel - a young Russian woman. In an extremely rare decision, the Catholic Church officially recognised the demonic possession of the 19 year old college freshman. This film is both a riveting courtroom drama and a first class chiller.....

A Catholic priest is on trial for homicidal negligance after performing a failed exorcism on Emily Rose, a devout college girl, now dead from assorted wounds and malnutrition. Opposing Erin Bruner, the priests defense lawyer, is the chief prosecutor, who argues persuasively that Emily was likely suffering from psychotic epilepsy and could have been saved with hospitalization and medicine. The demonic possession unfolds in a series of spine-tingling flashbacks.
More than a criminal negligance case, the trail becomes about the importance of recognizing the limits of rationality and the possibility of a world being beyond the visible.
In portraying the extent to which wildly different belief systems have splintered modern society this film couldn't be more relevant or timely.

An excellent movie, scary, creepy, subtle with no shocks really. Watch this film, if you haven't seen it yet!!!!!!

The Exorcist

(18)

The belief in evil - and that evil can be cast out. From these two strands of faith, author William Peter Blatty and director William Friedkin wove The Exorcist, the frightening and realistic story of an innocent girl inhabited by a malevolent entity.

Academy Award-winner Friedkin, who introduces the film and supervised this new video transfer from restored picture and audio elements, gets effective performances from Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Max von Sydow and Lee J. Cobb. Winner of 1973 Oscars for Best Adapted Screenplay and Sound, The Exorcist remains, 25 years later, one of the most shocking and gripping movies ever made.

I love The Exorcist, its such a classic movie and it stands up to repeat viewings. I first seen the movie when i was 19, I've always been into horror movies. Basically, I don't see how anyone could not like this movie.

Doom

(15)

In the not-so-distant future, a portal has been discovered leading from Earth to Mars, where the government operates a research base to examine the ruins of a lost civilisation; scientists are studying it, conducting experiments they perhaps shouldn't be, and trying find out what happened. Answer: nothing good. That's what Sarge (The Rock) and his unit of high-tech Marines find out the hard way when they're sent to investigate a disturbance on the base which turns out to be nothing less than an infestation of terrifying, evil, flesh-eating monsters. Doom, based on one of the most popular video games of all time, knows exactly what it wants to do, and wastes no time in doing it. Andrzej Bartkowiak, the director of lean, effective action flicks like Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds, gets right to the meat of the movie: marines versus monsters in dark, dank corridors. The Rock brings just the right balance of bad-ass attitude and deadpan humour to the role of Sarge, while the cast's other standout is Reaper (Lord of the Rings' Karl Urban), who tries to repair his strained relationship with his sister Samantha (Rosamund Pike), one of the base's scientists. They're joined by a motley crew, including the twisted Portman, intensely religious Goat, affable Duke, and newbie The Kid. While the plot differs from that of the game in a few key ways, it remains true to the spirit of the original a no-frills fest of shooting, explosions, gore, and vicious zombies. The game was, of course, a first-person shooter, and in an inspired moment, the movie turns itself into one for a stretch. It's exhilarating, as are several surprising twists that separate this fun, streamlined action extravaganza from lesser video game adaptations.

Great movie I especially liked the ending and the 1st person shooter scene. The DOOM creatures themselves were very realistic. Still a great movie though you should still buy it.

The Unborn

(15)

Sometimes the soul of a dead of a dead person has been so tainted with evil that it is denied entrance to heaven. It must endlessly wander the borderlands between worlds, desperately searching for a new body to inhabit. And sometimes it actually succeeds.

Writer/Director David Goyer (Blade: Trinity, The Invisible, Batman Begins) gives a terrifying glimpse into the life of the undead in The Unborn, a supernatural thriller that follows a young woman pulled into a world of nightmares when a demonic spirit haunts her and threatens everyone she loves.

Casey Bell (Odette Yustman) hated her mother for leaving her as a child. But when inexplicable things start to happen, Casey begins to understand why she left. Plagued by merciless dreams and a tortured ghost that haunts her waking hours, she must turn to the only spiritual advisor, Sendak (Gary Oldman), who can make it stop.

With Sendak's help, Casey uncovers the source of a family curse dating back to Nazi Germany - a creature with the ability to inhabit anyone or anything that is getting stronger with each possession. with the curse unleashed, her only chance at survival is to shut a doorway from beyond our world that has been pried open by someone who was never born.

I really enjoyed this movie, it keeps you at the edge of you seat all the way through.
