My Fair Lady

(U)

By George, they've got it! Newly transferred from elements painstakingly restored in 1994, the film version of Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady is lavish, lovely and the acclaimed recipient of eight 1964 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director (George Cukor).

Best Actor Oscar winner Rex Harrison reprises his signature stage role of Henry Higgins, the supremely assured phoeneticist who wagers that under his tutelage, cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle can pass for a duchess at the embassy ball. In one of her best-loved roles. Audrey Hepburn plays Eliza. If ever there was a face the professor could grow accustomed to, it's hers. In Hertford, Hereford and Hampshire (and elsewhere) no one's fairer than My Fair lady, one of the most irresistible musicals ever.

Stanley Holloway, Gladys Cooper, Jeremy Brett, Theodore Bikel, Mona Washbourne, Isobel Elsom, John Holland.

The whole cast acted and sang well in this movie, I'm not into musicals so I thought this was a bit corny and stupid. If your into musicals then you'll loved, I'm glad I watched it, but I'd never watch it again.

The Jungle Book 1994

(PG)

A faithful adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's classic tale of Mowgoli (Jason Scott Lee) the jungle boy who is raised by wolves after being lost when a tiger attacked an encampment and killed his father. Years later he finds himself re-united with his childhood love Kitty (Lena Headey) and back in the "civilization" of Colonial India which he finds far less civilized then his jungle haunts. The search for a lost treasure shows who the truly civilized members of society are.

Cary Elwes, Sam Neill, John Cleese, Jason Flemyng, Stefan Kalipha, Ron Donachie, Anirudh Agarwal, Faran Tahir, Sean Naegeli, Joanna Wolff, Liza Walker.

I like this version of The Jungle Book, it is really good.
This love story is quite convincing, and the movie aims and succeeds in looking beyond the folly of its own time. I can recommend this movie.

The Jungle Book 1967

(U)

One of the most popular Disney films ever, The Jungle Book is a song-filled celebration of friendship, fun and adventure set in a lush and colourful world. Inspired by Rudyard Kipling's"Mowgli" stories, Disney's 19th animated masterpiece was the last animated feature that had Walt Disney's personal touch.

The jubilant adventure begins when Mowgli (Bruce Reitherman), a little boy raised by wolves, is urged by his friend Bagheera (Sebastian Cabot), a wise old panther, to seek safety in the man-village. Feeling very much at home in the jungle, Mowgli resists and runs off. Much to Bagherra's dismay, Mowgli meets a new friend with a happy-go-lucky- philosophy of life- Baloo (Phil Harris) the bear, a lovable " jungle bum." Together, the three buddies find the journey back to civilization anything but civilized! They encounter a crazy orangutan, the hypnotic and sly snake Kaa (Sterling Holloway) and the menacing Shere Khan (George Sanders)!

Louis Prima, J. Pat O'Malley, Verna Felton, Clint Howard, Chad Stuart, Lord Tim Hudson, John Abbott, Darleen Carr, Ben Wright.

This is a classic Disney movie, in the top 5 of their cartoons. It is a really excellent childrens movie. I watched this when I was growing up. Then I watched it with my children when they were younger. And you still don't get bored with it.

Mad Max 3: Beyond The Thunderdome

(15)

Two men enter. One man leaves. That's the law in Bartertown's Thunderdome arena. But lawmaker Aunty Entity will soon add another : Don't get Max mad!.

The film stars Mel Gibson for his third go-round as the title hero who takes on the barbarians of the post-nuclear future- and this time becomes the saviour of a tribe of lost children. Music superstar Tina Turner steals what's left of the screen as Aunty Enity, a power-mad dominatrix determined to use Max to tighten her stranglehold on Bartertown.

The directors deliver another rousing final apocalypse-on-wheels and one of the best movie fight scenes ever, as Max and the gladiatorial Blaster face off with maces, chainsaws and anything not nailed down inside the Thunderdome.

Bruce Spence
, Adam Cockburn, Frank Thring, Angelo Rossitto, Paul Larsson, Angry Anderson, Robert Grubbo.

I really enjoyed this movie, but no where near as good as Mad Max or Mad Max 2. There is not was much action in this one compared to the first 2. But still worth a watch if you've seen the first 2. Can't wait to see Mad Max 4, but have to wait till 2011.

Mad Max 2: Road Warrior

(18)

Definitely one of the best action movies of the 80s - and there were a lot of them too!

In the annals of action movies few can compare with Mad Max 2, a full-throttle epic of speed and carnage that rockets you into a dreamlike landscape where the post-nuclear future meets the mythological past. More simply, it's also one of the most mind-blowing stunt movies ever made.

Max (Mel Gibson) the heroic loner who drives the roads of outback Australia in an unending search for gasoline. Arrayed against him and the other scraggly defenders of a fuel-depot encampment are the bizarre warriors commanded by the Humungus (Kjell Nilsson), notorious for never taking prisoners when they can pulverise them instead.

When the battle is joined, the results are savage, spectacular and with Mad Max 2 on your side, screen action doesn't get any better.

Bruce Spence, Michael Preston, Max Phipps, Vernon Wells, Virginia Hey, William Zappa, Arkie Whiteley, Emil Minty, Steve J. Spears.

This isn't as good as the first Mad Max movie, but its well better than the third one. Back in the 90's the makers of Waterworld copied the plot of Mad Max 2, but replaced oil with soil.

Mad Max

(18)

On a remote stretch of deserted highway, a band of violent bikers has taken over, attacking anyone unlucky enough to cross their savage path. Racing up and down the seemingly endless miles of asphalt, the crazed outlaws blaze through small towns, plowing into vehicles and pedestrians alike with reckless abandon. Bringing a sense of law to this lawlessness are the mobile police force, led by Max (Mel Gibson) and Goose (Steve Bisley), who are as fast and mean as their adversaries and are willing to do whatever it takes to cut the enemy down.

After the brutal killing of a fellow officer, Max tries to escape this barbaric existence with his wife (Joanne Samuel) and their young son, not realizing that the vicious gang is only a hearbeat away. Led by the bloodthirsty Toecutter (Hugh Keays-Byrne), the evil horde follows Max and family to a remote country haven, where a chilling game of cat and mouse leads to a terrifying final act.

Roger Ward
, Lisa Aldernhoven, David Bracks, Bertrand Cadart, David Cameron, Robina Chaffey.

This is a cult classic movie apocalyptic science fiction movies you will ever see. This is a total classic I just love the Mad Max trilogy.

World Trade Center

(12)

In the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster, hope is still alive. Refusing to bow down to terrorism, rescuers and family of the victims press forward. Their mission of rescue and recovery is driven by the faith that under each piece of rubble, a co-worker, a friend a family member may be found. This is the true story of John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage) and William J. Jimeno (Michael Peria), two of the last survivors extracted from Ground Zero and the rescuers who never gave up. It's a story of the true heroes of that fateful time in the history of the United States when buildings would fall and heroes would rise, literally from the ashes to inspire the entire human race.

Maria Bello, Connor Paolo, Anthony Piccininni, Alexa Gerasimovich, Morgan Flynn, Armando Riesco.

I watched this movie some time last year and thought its good. It is based on a true advent. This movie was very emotional, from start to finish it shows the determination to live, the love for your family. The bravery of those who were involved. I would recommend this to all!!!

Rumor Has It

(12)

Sarah Huttington (Jennifer Aniston), recently engaged, goes home to Pasadena with fiancé Jeff (Mark Ruffalo) for a family wedding. She hears a rumor that "The Graduate" (book and movie) are based on her family. Did her grandmother and her mom have flings with the same man just before her parents married? Is she a strange man's child; does this explain why she doesn't fit in? Was her mother happy? Is she too facing a loveless marriage? Where can she seek answers: her mother's dead, her father's a pleasant naïf. Ask her salty grandma? Better to ask the man in the triangle, the real Benjamin Braddock. With Jeff's blessing, Sarah heads for San Francisco, looking for the key to her past and to her future.

Shirley MacLaine
, Kevin Costner, Richard Jenkins, Christopher McDonald, Mike Vogel, Steve Sandvoss.

This movie was a bit boring and rather dull, with no excitement anything. Whats with the fella sleeping with 3 generations. Find something better to with your time. Would not recommend watching.

Wanted

(18)

Based upon Mark Millar's explosive graphic novel series and helmed by stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov - creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the Night Watch series - Wanted tells the tale of one apathetic nobody's transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice.

25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock punching rut.

Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie).

After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad's death by unlocking his dormant powers. As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself.

With wickedly brilliant tutors - including the Fraternity's enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman) - Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye. And as he wavers between newfound heroism and vengeance, Wes will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny.

Terence Stamp, Thomas Kretschmann, Common, Kristen Hager, Marc Warrren, David O'Hara.

From the moment I seen the trailer for this I wanted to see it and I Wasn't disappointed either it was fantastic. Great action scenes and a great bonus Morgan Freeman was in it, one of my favourite actors. If haven't yet seen I do recommend you watch it!!!

(PG)

Hollywood Pictures and Amblin Entertainment deliver an electrifying rollercoaster ride of a movie! Everyone is afraid of something..for Dr Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels), his phobia is downright embarrassing. But when he moves his family to a small town, the one thing that bugs him most is now threatening the townspeople at an alarming rate. For this unlikely hero, overcoming a childhood fear of spiders might just save them all, but it may already be too late!

Directed by Frank Marshall this critically acclaimed hit spins a web of riveting suspense and entertains with its unique mix of thrills, chills and laughter!

Harley Jane Kozak, John Goodman, Julian Sands, Stuart Pankin, Brian McNamara.

This is a good movie. But if you're scared of spiders (like me) you may never shower again lol, or eat popcorn again. Arachnophobia is a really good comedy horror movie.

While in the course of time, another has arisen, Akasha (Aaliyah), the Queen of the Vampires and the Dammed. Who shall win the final battle of the vampires and survive?

Marguerite Moreau, Vincent Perez, Paul McGann, Lena Olin, Christian Manon, Claudia Black, Bruce Spence.

I've seen this movie quite few times and thought it was really good. If you love vampires movies then you will really like this one.

Ghost Ship

(18)

When Canadian Air Force pilot Jack Ferriman (Desmond Harrington) recruits the team to investigate a mysterious vessel he has spotted floating adrift off the coast of Alaska in a remote region of the Bering Sea, they discover the remains of the fabled Antonia Graza, thought lost at sea for more than 40 years. It's a hell of a find. The salvage rights alone could be worth a fortune. And by the law of the sea, any vessel discovered on international waters can be claimed by whomever is fortunate enough to find her and skilled enough to haul her back to port. But once on board the eerie, cavernous ship, the crew of the Arctic Warrior discovers that the decaying vessel is anything but deserted. It's home to something more deadly and horrific than anything they've encountered in all their years at sea.

Gabrield Byne
, Julianna Margulies, Ron Eldard, Isaiah Washington, Alex Dimitriades, Karl Urban, Emily Browing, Francessca Rottondini, Boris Brkic, Bob Ruggiero, Iain Gardiner, Adam Bieshaar.

If you like movies with lots of blood and guts in it, then this is the movie is great for you. In 1962 an Italian cruise ship vanishes in mysterious circumstances. They soon find out what really happened to the people on the ship. If you haven't yet seen this movie, then your missing out on a good one.

Thunderpants

(PG)

An 11-year-old boy's amazing ability to break wind leads him first to fame and then to death row, before it helps him to fulfill his ambition of becoming an astronaut.

Simon Callow, Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie, Paul Giamatti, Ned Beatty, Bruce Cook, Rupert Grint, Bronagh Gallagher, Victor McGuire.

Children find public farting funny, so this is a great movie for them, this movie is surely make anyone laugh. It does however go further and sensitively covers topics such as the nature of friendship, "being different" and overcoming your problems. Its funny and heartwarming, you'll just love it!!

We Are Marshall

(PG)

We Are Marshall tells an inspiring true story set in Huntingdon, West Virginia, a small town steeped in the rich tradition of college football. For decades, players, coaches, fans and families have come together to cheer on Marshall University's "Thunder Herd." For this team and this community, Marshall football is more than just a sport, it's a way of life. But on a fateful night in 1970, while traveling back to Huntingdon after a game in North Carolina, 75 members of Marshall's football team and coaching staff were killed in a plane crash. As those left behind struggled to cope with the devastating loss of their loved ones, the grieving families found hope and strength in the leadership of Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey), a young coach who was determined to rebuild Marshall's football program and, in the process, helped to heal a community.

Matthew Fox, Anthony Mackie, David Strathairn, Ian McShane, Kate Mara, Kimberly Williams-Paisley.

This movie fails on every level, this isn't entertainment. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, its a total waste of time.

Untamed Love

(12)

To everyone else, she's a monster. But to one special teacher, she's a very special child.

Six-year old Caitlin vandalises property and attacks other children, causing devastating injuries. She has been branded psychotic and seems doomed to a life behind bars in a mental hospital. But behind this devilish exterior lies a very different character: a charming child with a near-genius IQ. When Caitlin joins Maggie Bernard's special education class, Maggie refuses to give up on a child whom everyone else has abandoned - even if it means challenging the law.

This extraordinary moving story of how one teacher's love, patience and commitment 'tamed' a highly disturbed child.

Cathy Lee Crosby, John Getz, Gary Frank, Jaime Gomez, Richard Fancy, Mel Winker.

This movie is about a teacher who helps a young girl who needs to be shown real love, instead of locking her away. This is a amazing movie that will give you hope, and also teach us a thing or two about what love really is about. Well worth watching. If you like reading the Torey Hayden books you'll love this movie as it is along the same lines.

Taming Andrew aka When Andrew Came Home

(PG)

A mother (Park Overall) searches for five years to find her kidnapped son (Seth Adkins) in this fact-based drama. Unexpectedly the boy is found, but the reunion is not as she hoped. She now has to deal with five years of abuse that the boy suffered at the hands of his kidnappers.

Jason Beghe, Lynne Deragon, Shannon Lawson, Carl Marotte, Graig Eldridge, Patrick Chilvers, Jeff Clarke.

I thought this movie was really good. The young actor who plays Andrew is really good and plays the part well.
This is a true story, and it shows you how cruel life can be, and that love can repair some of the damaged that it has coursed.

(15)

When Erica French (Keri Russell) opts to keep the baby she conceived in high school, she never dreamed that one day she would be fighting for custody against the child's father, Scott Stone (Vince Corazza). Scott Stone initially fought for custody when Erica threatened to cut off his access to their daughter. Scott continues to try to be a part of his daughter's life, but when Molly (Courtney Greshuk & Nicole Greshuk at age 1 and Phoenix Arn-Horn & Mercedes Arn-Horn age 2) first breaks her arm at the playground then Scott's mother finds mysterious bruises on her granddaughter, Scott again fights for custody of young Molly, and this time he wins because the court feels his family can provide a more stable environment for Molly than a public daycare can.

Roberta Maxwell, Charlotte Sullivan, Barry Flatman, Dave Nichols, Julie Khaner, Jill Clayburgh.

I really enjoyed this drama (if that's the right words for this movie). Its a really sad and emotional movie movie so have your hankies really when you watch this movie. Recommended to all

Switched at Birth

(PG)

This is the story of the two babies who were switched at birth. A few years later when one of the girls gets sick and tests revealed that she was not the daughter of the couple who raised her. Eventually she dies. And the couple most especially the mother, search for their real daughter. Eventually they suspect that it's a widower who has their child. Now while they try to find out if she is their daughter, the widower is advised by his attorney not to be so hasty to cooperate, cause if she is their daughter, he might lose her, and she is all he has.

Bonnie Bedelia, Brian Kerwin, John M. Jackson, Eve Gordon, Judith Hoag, Caroline McWilliams, Lois Smith, Kelli Williams, Ariane Richards, Erika Flores, Edward Asner, Beth Grant.

This is a really good movie that was made for TV, I thought this was sad and tragic and had me in tears. So have the hankies ready when you watch this. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I recommend this movie to everyone who needs a really feel good movie.

Dennis Quaid, Gene Hackman, David Andrews, Linden Ashby, Jeff Fahey, Joanna Going, Mark Harmon, Michael Madsen, Bill Pullman, JoBeth Williams.

Extraordinary movie, well worth watching, truly excelent. A cinematography delight in every respect. Doc Holliday is the best in this movie with his wonderful quirky humour and his enigmatic screen presence, nearly out-shining Mr Earp himself.

Wimbledon

(12)

Peter Colt (Paul Bettany), an English tennis player in his thirties whose ranking slipped from 11th to 119th in the world, considers he never really had to fight for anything as his wealthy but all but close family easily put him trough studies and allowed him to pursue his tennis ambitions, bravely exchanges jokes with his German sparring partner Dieter Prohl (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), in a similar position, but feels it's about time to admit he's getting too old to compete with fitter coming men (or boys) and intends, after a last Wimbledon, to take a job with the prestigious tennis club instead. Just then, by accident, he bumps into Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst), the American rising star of female tennis, falls in love with her and finds her interest in him changes his entire perception, even gives him the strength to win again. But where will it lead them, especially when her overprotective father-manager Dennis Bradbury (Sam Neill) proves determined to nip their relationship in the bud, believing it detrimental to her career?

Jon Favreau, Bernard Hill, Eleanor Bron, Austin Nichols, Robert Lindsay, James McAvoy.

The movie is a great romantic comedy. The movie is enjoyable and one that I've watched quite a few more times afterward. The storyline of the movie is good and I recommend watching it!

The Nanny Diaries

(12)

Strapped for cash after her recent graduation from New York University, Annie Braddock (Scarlett Johansson) puts an ad in the newspaper, hoping to find a position as a nanny. Thankfully, a chance encounter quickly leads to potential employment with Mr. X (Paul Giamatti) and Mrs. X (Laura Linney), a wealthy Upper East Side couple looking for someone to care for their 4-year-old son, Grayer (Nicholas Art).

Annie is a product of a working-class New Jersey family, where her mother (Donna Murphy) has dreams of her daughter becoming a respectable businesswoman. Meanwhile, Annie has her sights set on a career in anthropology. Suddenly, the prospect of working for some of the city's social elite seems like a nice alternative.

Donna Murphy, John Henry Cox, Alicia Keys, Lewis Payton Jr., Sonnie Brown, Georgina Chapman.

Annie has done some babysitting in the past, but she has no idea what she is getting herself into when she accepts the position. Mrs. X turns out to be the employer from hell - a pampered wife, whose increasingly outrageous demands take a considerable toll on Annie. Even worse, Mr. X is never around and Annie is basically caught right in the middle of the couple's crumbling marriage. For the next nine frenzied months, Annie is forced to juggle between the pair, their dysfunctions, their son, and a new love interest (Chris Evans).

This movie was surprisingly good! It is so hilarious and moving, you just gotta see it!!!

Girl with a Pearl Earring

(12)

This film, adapted from a work of fiction by author Tracy Chevalier, tells a story about the events surrounding the creation of the painting "Girl With A Pearl Earring" by 17th century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer (Colin Firth). Little is known about the girl in the painting, it is speculated that she was a maid who lived in the house of the painter along with his family and other servants, though there is no historical evidence . This masterful film attempts to recreate the mysterious girl's life. Griet, played by Scarlett Johansson, is a maid in the house of painter Johannes Vermeer, played by British actor Colin Firth. Vermeer's wealthy patron and sole means of support, Van Ruijven (Tom Wilkinson), commissions him to paint Griet with the intent that he will have her for himself before it is finished. She must somehow secretly pose for the crucial painting without the knowledge of Vermeer's wife, avoid Van Ruijven's grasp, and protect herself from the cruel gossip of the world of a 17th century servant.

Judy Parfitt, Cillian Murphy, Essie Davies, Joanna Scanlan, Alakin Mann, Chris McHallem.

This is such a wonderful and really intense movie. I didn’t expect to be captivated by a love story. This is movie making of the highest caliber. If you haven't yet seen then I would recommend this to all!!!

Eight Legged Freaks

(12)

The residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. It's then up to mining engineer Chris McCormack (David Arquette) and Sheriff Sam Parker (Kari Wuhrer) to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople, including the Sheriff's young son, Mike (Scott Terra), her daughter, Ashley (Scarlett Johansson), and paranoid radio announcer Harlan (Doug E. Doug), into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts.

Rick Overton, Leon Rippy, Matt Czuchry, Jay Arlen Jones, Eileen Ryan, Riley Smith, Matt Holwick, Jane Edith Wilson, Jack Moore, Roy Gaintner.

Eight Legged Freaks is quite a good movie still a bit corny thought. A barrel of toxic waste falls into a pond in the Arizona area. The crickets that live in the pond get contaminated and when they are eaten by the spiders at a local spider farm, the spiders grow to an enormous size and go on a rampage eating cats, ostriches and people! An OK movie for a Friday night in.

Seabiscuit

(15)

In an era when Americans were in great need of heroic figures to help them forget their troubles, SEABISCUIT comes to the rescue. The picture relates a moving story of friendship and devotion in rehabilitating the main characters'fractured lives, as it interweaves the interactions between horse, jockey, trainer and owner and their adoring fans. The film accurately portrays the real people and events of those troubled times and how Seabiscuit "fixed us, every one of us."

David McCullough, Jeff Bridges,
Paul Vincent O'Connor, Michael Ensign,
James Keane, Valerie Mahaffey, David Doty,
Carl M. Craig, Michael O'Neill, Annie Corley.

This is a really good movie, it is sure to bring a tear to your eye. The racehorse that is too small, the jockey that is too big, the trainer that is too old and the owner who is too dumb, will put your emotions into over drive. This is a moving movie for anyone not just horse lovers.

The Horse Whisperer

(PG)

After a devastating riding accident, a young girl Grace (Scarlett Johansson) and her beloved horse are both left with serious physical and emotional scars.

Determined to help, the girl's desperate mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) puts her busy, big-city life on hold and travels west to seek out the Horse Whisperer. When she meets this rugged, down-to-earth rancher (Robert Redford), she discovers his extraordinary gift with animals also touches the lives of people around him...

Sam Neill, Dianne Wiest, Chris Cooper, Cherry Jones,
Ty Hillman, Kate Bosworth, Austin Schwartz.

This is a great family movie. It is very sad at the beginning but it gets happier as it goes on. Robert Redford is a good actor and director of this movie. I think he a done a great job by this movie

Flicka

Coming of age story set in the mountain vistas, A headstrong 16 year old Katy McLaughlin (Alison Lohman) desires to work on her family's mountainside horse ranch, although her father insists she finish boarding school. Katy finds a mustang in the hills near her ranch. Katy then sets her mind to tame a mustang and prove to her father she can run the ranch. But when tragedy happens, it will take all the love and strength the family can muster to restore hope.

Tim McGraw, Maria Bello, Ryan Kwanten, Danny Pino, Dallas Roberts, Kaylee Deger, Jeffrey Nordling.

This was a great family movie. It made me laugh and cry at times! It truly shows the bond that can be created between animals and humans and that they can never truly be broken or forgotten. But all in all this a great movie

National Velvet

(U)

National Velvet is the poignant family story that made a young Elizabeth Taylor a star. Taylor excels as Velvet Brown, a 1920s working-class girl whose dreams of owning her own horse become a reality when she wins Pie, a wild and unruly horse, in a raffle. With the help of Mi Taylor (Mickey Rooney), a skittish, gun shy ex jockey, Velvet trains Pie to be a race champion despite the wishes of her loving but cautious parents (Donald Crisp and Ann Revere).

Velvet's determination pays off, and the Brown family (including Angela Lansbury as Edwina, Velvet's sophisticated older sister) pools its money and enters the family pride and joy in the prestigious Grand National race, only to have its hopes dashed when the rider reneges--leading Velvet to do something extraordinary. This uplifting adaptation of Enid Bagnold's novel features stunning photography of coastal England and acclaimed crosscut editing that heightens the tension in the famous race scene. Young co-stars Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney are fabulous together, full of youthful charm and exuberance, ably supported by a first-rate ensemble cast.

I use to love watching this when I was growing up, its about a young girl who makes her dreams come true, by riding her horse The Pie in the grand national. He mum shows her support but everyone else thinks she crazy. Starring Elizabeth Taylor as the girl and Mickey Rooney as the trainer, this is the perfect movie for all young horse lovers.

Penelope (Christina Ricci) is afflicted by a secret family curse that can only be broken when she is loved by one of her own kind. Hidden away in the family's majestic home, she is subjected to meeting a string of blue-bloods through her parent's futile attempt to marry her off and break the curse. Each suitor is instantly enamored with Penelope (and her sizable dowry)... until the curse is revealed.

When a willing mate cannot be found, mischievous tabloid reporter Lemon, (Peter Dinklage), hires Max, (James McAvoy), to pose as a prospective suitor in hopes of snapping a photo of the mysterious 'Penelope.' Max, who is really a down-on-his-luck gambler, finds himself drawn to Penelope and not wanting to expose or disappoint her, disappears and leaves Lemon in the lurch. Fed up by this latest betrayal and determined to live life on her own terms, Penelope breaks free from her family and goes out into the world in search of adventure - curse be damned.

Carry On Christmas

(PG)

Ebenezer Scrooge (Sid James) is a misery on Christmas, not allowing people money or doing anything to share Christmas cheer around his employees or acquaintances. While Scrooge is visited by three ghosts we see how his penny pinching has affected those around him.

Terry Scott, Barbara Windsor, Bernard Bresslaw.

More of the cast are present here and there are great performances from Charles Hawtrey, Sid James and Frankie Howerd. An excellent hilarious movie, recommended to all!!!

Carry On Emmannuelle

(PG)

The Carry On team are back with this their 30th film and the laughs are filthier and funnier than ever before! Emmanuelle Pervert (Suzanne Danielle) Is the fascinating, delectable young wife of Emile (Kenneth Williams) the French ambassador for Great Britain. With his sexual prowess damaged in a freak parachuting accident, Emmanuelle happily proves her charms are irresistable to all members of the opposite sex.

Even the servants are not immune: With the chauffeur Leyland (Kenneth Connor), the butler Lyons (Jack Douglas), and the elderly bootboy Richmond (Peter Butterworth) falling helplessly under her spell...

Kenneth Conner, Joan Sims, Larry Dann,
Suzanne Danielle, Beryl Reid, Henry McGee,
Merlyn Ward.

The movie, like a couple before it, shows how much the writing of Talbot Rothwell is sorely missed. Its isn't as good as some of them out there, but its still watchable and funny!!!
