The Pure Hell of St Trinians

(U)

Those outrageous St. Trinians girls are back with a vengeance in the second sequel of anarchy and chaos. A rich Arab Sheikh visits the school, hunting for gym-slipped recruits for his harem, which might explain the sudden interest in geography lessons.

At the start of the movie the school has been burnt down and the pupils are brought to trial. A lovely sequence follows in which the Judge is continually distracted by one of the rather good-looking 6th formers! Because of this and thanks to a scam devised by Flash Harry (George Cole) the pupils are basically let off. Sadly the movie doesn't quite maintain the standard of comedy set in this opening section.

Blue Murder At St Trinians

(U)

The second film in the St Trinians series, takes the anarchic schoolgirls to Rome, having won a UNESCO prize trip. There they become involved with a jewel thief...

The rest of the cast are basically the same except that Alistair Sim only has a small role, which one of the reasons this isn't as good as the first movie. Overall though thoroughly enjoyable.

The Great St Trinians Train Robbery

(U)

Filmed three years after the real Great Train Robbery, the plot is centred on a bunch of criminals who infiltrate the school and plan to use the dubious educational establishment to stash the loot. But the train robbers fall foul of the schoolgirls and their need to have a good time causing havoc.

Loved all the St Trinians movies, use to watched them every time they were on tv when I was growing up!!

The Belles Of St Trinians

(U)

The Belles Of St Trinians is the first in the series of films based on the cartoon creations of Ronald Searle.

The arrival of Sultan's daughter Princess Fatima at England's famous and prestigious 'School for Young Ladies' precipitates even more chaos than usual. Her father's horse Arab Boy is due to run at the nearby Gold Cup so Clarence Fitton, bookie brother of headmistress Millicent, ensures his own daughter is on hand to report progress. At the same time Barchester police have planted sergeant Ruby Gates as a teacher, and the Ministry of Education are sending a third inspector down after the previous two disappeared without trace.

Even though this comedy movie was made in the 1950's it stands the test of time. George Cole's Harry is an iconic spiv. Alistaire Syms portrays one of the greatest performances of his career. The support cast of the likes of Joyce Grenfell and Beryl Reid to name a few mean this is a must for any British Comedy Buff. A pure gem of a bygone era.

St Trinian's 2007

(12)

St Trinian's, a school for "young ladies" with its anarchic doctrine of free expression, brings together a motley crew of ungovernable girls who, using their wit and ingenuity, save the school from bankruptcy.

Starring Stephen Fry, Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Mischa Barton, Russell Brand and Gemma Arterton St. Trinian's is the sixth in a series of films based on the works of cartoonist Ronald Searle. The previous five films include: The Belles of St Trinian's (1954), Blue Murder at St Trinian's (1957), The Pure Hell of St Trinian's (1960), The Great St Trinian's Train Robbery (1966) and The Wildcats of St Trinian's (1980).

Well, I was extremely surprised by this movie, expecting little more than silly comedy, but I was pleasantly surprised by just how brilliant the script was. Each character is a helping hand to how fun this movie is. Movies like this are rare and few, and sadly, there just aren't enough.

British comedy at its best!

Life Size

(U)

Sad and lonely after the death of her mother, Casey (Lohan) would do anything to see her again. But when a series of mystic mishaps mistakenly brings her fashion doll "Eve" (Banks) to life instead, it changes Casey's world forever!

Heartwarming and lots of fun, the magical story of this happy accident captures a spirit your family will want to relive again and again!

This is just another average Disney movie that anyone over 11 would just laugh at the stupidity of it. This movie is just basically a kiddies version of chucky.

The Parent Trap 1998

(PG)

What if you spent your whole life wishing for something you didn't know you already had? Halllie Parker and Annie James are about to find out.

Hallie is a cool girl from California. Annie is a fair rose from London. When the two accidentally meet at a summer camp, they think they have nothing in common except they're identical twins (Lindsay Lohan). Now they're up to their freckles in schemes and dreams to switch places, get their parents (Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson) back together and have the family they've wished for!

After seeing both versions of The Parent Trap and can assure you that the new video is just as good, but not better than the old one. The good plot is carefully directed to make the most out of the humour involved. A good family movie!!!!!!!

Freaky Friday (1977)

(U)

Annabel (Jodie Foster) isn't herself today - neither is her mother this morning. They became each other!

When a mother (Barbara Harris)and her teenage daughter both wish, at the same time, that they could switch places for one day, each has to live the life of the other on one seriously freaky Friday...

This movie has been re-made but I think the classic is a lot better than the later version the comedy does start almost straight away. Switching roles has made a great comedy and Disney adds their own magic and combined make a great movie.

Freaky Friday

(PG)

Dr. Tess Coleman (the hilarious Jamie Lee Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (rockin' Lindsay Lohan) have one thing in common - they don't relate to each other on anything. Not clothes or men or Anna's passion to be in a rock band. Nothing. Then one night a little mystic mayhem changes their lives and they wake up to the biggest freak-out ever. Tess and Anna are trapped inside each other's body! But Tess' wedding is on Saturday, and the two must find a way to switch back - fast! Literally forced to walk in each other's shoes, will they gain respect and understanding for the other's point of view?

Filled with comedy, rock 'n' roll and lots of heart, 'Freaky Friday' is freaking fun every one can enjoy together!

This movie exceeded expectations. Both Curtis and Lohan turn in believable performances and there are some very funny moments. Good family entertainment.

The Stand

When a man crashes his car into a petrol station, he brings with him the foul corpses of his wife and daughter. He dies and it doesn't take long for the plague which killed him to spread across America and the world.

Its long, very very very long, you have to read it all to get the whole story and as said, its very very long. However, it is also superb, well written, gripping, exciting, enticing and one of the best in the genre ever.

Carrie

Carrie has the gift of telekinesis. To be invited to prom night by Tommy is a dream - the first step to social acceptance. But events take a turn on that night as Carrie is forced to exercise her terrible gift on the town that mocks and loathes her.

Carrie is the first book written by Stephen King and age means nothing in the quality of this book. Over ruled by her religious mother Carrie is a bullied school girl and the book portrays her coming to terms with her life as well as the "gift" she has obtained. But the night will take a sinister turn for the events and for the kids attending that prom revenge is best served cold...

Insomnia

Ralph's insomnia gets worse when Ed Deepneau gets out of control. Ed is obsessed with the notion that Derry is becoming the new Armageddon and that time is ticking away for the residents. An evil of imaginable proportions has began and Ralph has one chance to beat it.

Another one of King's masterpieces, it's well written and imaginative. The only problem being that it's a bit long winded, sometimes you wonder if the detail will ever stop, and it get's to a point where it starts to become boring and you want to fall asleep.

Salem's Lot

Upon its initial publication in 1975, '"Salem's Lot", with its 'intended echoes of Dracula', was recognized as a landmark work. The novel has sold millions of copies in various editions. Now, with the addition of fifty pages of material deleted from the 1975 manuscript as well as material that has since been modified by King, an introduction by him, and two short stories related to the events of the novel, this edition represents the text as the author envisioned it. It also features lavishly creepy photographs by acclaimed photographer Jerry Uelsmann, printed interior endpapers, and a stunning page design.

Another King classic! I couldn't put it down, it was addictive just like all his other books! The plot is about a man and a young boy who have to travel back to Salem's lot to confront their worst fears... Vampires.

The Shining

Danny is only five years old, but he is a 'shiner', aglow with psychic voltage. When his father becomes caretaker of an old hotel, his visions grow out of control. Cut off by blizzards, the hotel seems to develop an evil force, and who are the mysterious guests in the supposedly empty hotel?

The book is completely different from the movie, for one it's much more in depth. The characterization is excellent and the events and plot in the novel is unmissable. More emphasis is on jack here, then in the movie. Full of suspense and tension- if your new to king, this is where to start.

IT

It was the children who saw - and felt - what made the town so horribly different. In the storm drains and sewers 'It' lurked, taking the shape of every nightmare, each one's deepest dread. As the children grow up and move away, the horror of 'It' is buried deep - until they are called back.

Although this is incredibly long and a bit padded out in places, It is an amazing story Stephen King should be proud of. The characters are well drawn, it is realistic, and the horror works wonderfully. Recommended.

Pet Sematary

The house looked right, felt right to Dr Louis Creed. A place where his family could settle, and the children could grow up and explore the rolling hills and meadows. Surely a safe place. Not a place to seep into your dreams, to wake you, sweating with fear and foreboding.

This book is an excellent read, really enjoyed, great for all those Stephen King fans

Breaking Dawn

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss and strife to reach the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fate of two tribes hangs. Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating and unfathomable consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella's life - first discovered in TWILIGHT, then scattered and torn in NEW MOON and ECLIPSE - seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed...forever?

This was my favourite book in the Twilight saga. I finished it in two days despite my plan to read it as slow as possible to make it last longer. An outstanding end to a breathtaking series, I'm just so sad it's over..

Eclipse

'Bella?' Edward's soft voice came from behind me. I turned to see him spring lightly up the porch steps, his hair windblown from running. He pulled me into his arms at once, and kissed me again. His kiss frightened me. There was too much tension, too strong an edge to the way his lips crushed mine ? like he was afraid we had only so much time left to us. As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob ? knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which? Following the international bestsellers Twilight and New Moon, Eclipse is the much-anticipated third book in Stephenie Meyer's captivating saga of vampire romance.

Another excellent read by Stephenie Meyer, just couldn't put this book down, I've ordered Breaking Dawn so waiting on this book cant wait to read it!!!

New Moon

I stuck my finger under the edge of the paper and jerked it under the tape. 'Shoot,' I muttered when the paper sliced my finger. A single drop of blood oozed from the tiny cut. It all happened very quickly then. 'No!' Edward roared ...Dazed and disorientated, I looked up from the bright red blood pulsing out of my arm ? and into the fevered eyes of the six suddenly ravenous vampires. For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is more dangerous than Bella ever could have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of an evil vampire but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realise their troubles may just be beginning ...

Really enjoyed this book, an excellent read. If you enjoyed reading Twilight then you will love this one!!!

Coraline

(not sure)

Based on Neil Gaiman's international best-selling book, Coraline is the story of a young girl (voiced by Dakota Fanning) who unlocks a mysterious door in her new home, and enters into an adventure in a parallel reality.

On the surface, this other world eerily mimics her own life - though much more fantastical. In it, Coraline encounters such off-kilter inhabitants as the morbidly funny Miss Forcible and Miss Spink (Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders), and a counterfeit mother (Teri Hatcher) - who attempts to keep her. Ultimately, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home.

Went to see this with my daughter, I personally thought it was quite good for a kids movie. Not sure if it would be suitable for children under 6 as I think the characters look a bit scary for younger children!!
