The Rite

(15)

The Rite is a supernatural thriller that uncovers the Devil's reach to even one of the holiest places on Earth. Inspired by true events, the film follows seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue), who is sent to study exorcism at the Vatican in spite of his own doubts about the controversial practice and even his own faith. Wearing his deep skepticism like armour, Michael challenges his superiors to look to psychiatry, rather than demons, in treating the possessed. Only when he's sent to apprentice with the unorthodox Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins) - a legendary priest who has performed thousands of exorcisms - does Michael's armour begin to fall. As he is drawn into a troubling case that seems to transcend even Father Lucas's skill, he begins to glimpse a phenomenon science can't explain or control...and an evil so violent and terrifying that it forces him to question everything he believes

Really enjoyed this movie, great acting from Anthony Hopkins as you would expect. I jumped quite a bit throughout this movie if you like good against evil movies you will like this one.....

Priest

(PG -13)

In a post-apocalyptic world, a savage war between man and vampire raged for centuries. A warrior priest (Paul Bettany) receives word of fresh attacks but now it`s personal, his niece has been kidnapped by a new hive of merciless vampires. To save her, he must break his vow of peace and hunt down the hive before it's too late. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel and packed with bloodthirsty action, this full throttle crusade takes you on the hunt for a deadly new breed of killer.

The movie is based on a graphic novel but I didn't know that until after I seen the movie, but thought this was really a good movie, jumped a few times throughout out it, it keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Insidious

(15)

Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne) are a happily married couple with three young children (Ty Simpkins, Andrew Astor) who have moved into their idyllic new suburban home. When tragedy strikes their young son, Josh and Renai begin to experience things in the house that are beyond explanation. Before long, their lives are turned upside down by demonic forces, hell-bent on terrorising their very existence.

Forced to seek help and protect their family, they learn the terrifying truth...

It's not the house that's haunted but something far worse...

Start of this movie was gripping and had me on the edge of my seat. A bit slow to the end put it was a really good movie at the start.

Halloween

(18)

The Night He Came Home

Perhaps the most influential and successful independent film ever made, Halloween is the movie that put director John Carpenter on the map as a viable filmmaker. An exercise in simple, pure horror, Halloween takes us into the world of a mad killer, Michael Myers (Tony Moran), who at a very young age stabbed his older sister to death. Locked away for many years in a mental hospital Michael escapes one night and returns to his home to continue his killing spree. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her first role, plays the resourceful babysitter who is chased by the killer on Halloween night. Produced for very little money and a tight shooting schedule, Halloween was a stunning success when it was released. Written by John Carpenter and his longtime producer Debra Hill, the film set both their careers on fire, with both of them working together many times over the next 25 years. The film also made a star out of Jamie Lee Curtis and turned the slasher movie into a viable, successful genre.

Halloween has been copied, parodied and even turned into a franchise of its own, but the original is still considered the best of the bunch. Halloween was John Carpenter's first foray into horror, and remains the standard to which all other modern horror films are measured.

Donald Pleasence, Nancy Kyes, P.J. Soles, Charles Cyphers, Kyle Richards, Brian Andrews, John Michael Graham, Nancy Stephens, Arthur Malet.

This is a really good movie for its time and is definitely a must see for anyone who loves horror movies! I thought it was great movie that keeps you at the edge of your seat. A really good watch !

Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh

(18)

His myth has endured for generations. His legacy is eternal rage. And now he's back… with a vengeance! Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh continues the tale of the phantom-like figure who wreaks a terrible fate upon those who chant his name five times while looking into a mirror and come face to face with grisly death.

A victim of unspeakable evil while he lived, the "Candyman" (Tony Todd, The Crow) has become evil incarnate in his afterlife. This time, he haunts the city of New Orleans, where a young schoolteacher named Annie Tarrant (Kelly Rowan, 187) is struggling to solve the brutal murder of her father. The locals insist that he was slain by the Candyman, but Annie is not convinced… until she unwittingly summons the monster forth, learns the secret of his power, and discovers the link that connects her to him. But can she stop him before he kills again?

William O'Leary, Bill Nunn, Matt Clark, David Gianophoulas, Fay Hauser, Joshua Gibran Mayweather, Timothy Carhart, Veronica Cartwirght.

Candyman 2 - Farewell To The Flesh is a great sequel to the first one, there is much more blood and gore. A great performance from Tony Todd as Candyman, and the setting is good. The movie wasn't as good as the first but still a good movie. If you've seen the first then I would receommed you watch this one!!!Reblog this post [with Zemanta]

Candyman

(18)

A children's ghost story comes to terrifying life in this gut-wrenching thriller about a graduate student whose research into modern folklore summons the spirit of the dead. Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) laughs when she interviews college freshmen about their superstitions. But when she hears about Candyman (Tony Todd), a slave spirit with a hook hand who is said to haunt Chicago's notorious Cabrini-Green housing project, she thinks she has a new twist for her thesis.

Braving the gang-ridden territory to visit the site of a brutal murder, Helen arrogantly assumes Candyman can't really exist... until he appears, igniting a string of terrifying, tragic slayings. But the police don't believe in monsters, and they charge Helen with the grisly crimes. And only one person can set her free .....Candyman.

Xander Berkeley, Kasi Lemmons, Vanessa Williams, DeJuan Guy, Marianna Elliott, Ted Raimi, Ria Pavia, Mark Daniels, Lisa Ann Poggi, Adam Philipson.

I first watched this movie a good few years ago now and thought it was really good, keeps you at the edge of your seat, if you like a good horror then I would recommend this movie.

28 Days Later

(18)

Animal activists (Alex Palmer, Bindu De Stoppani, Jukka Hiltunen) invade a laboratory with the intention of releasing chimpanzees that are undergoing experimentation, infected by a virus -a virus that causes rage. The naive activists ignore the pleas of a scientist (David Schneider) to keep the cages locked, with disastrous results. Twenty-eight days later, our protagonist, Jim (Cillian Murphy), wakes up from a coma, alone, in an abandoned hospital. He begins to seek out anyone else to find London is deserted, apparently without a living soul. After finding a church, which had become inhabited by zombie like humans intent on his demise, he runs for his life. Selena (Naomie Harris) and Mark (Noah Huntley) rescue him from the horde and bring him up to date on the mass carnage and horror as all of London tore itself apart. This is a tale of survival and ultimately, heroics, with nice subtext about mankind's savage nature.

This is a must watch for anyone who likes a good horror movie and I guess with the second one out it is a must have for anyone going to see that.

The Amityville Horror

(15)

On November 13, 1974, Suffolk County Police received a frantic phone call that led them to 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, Long Island. Inside the large Dutch Colonial house, they discovered a horrific crime scene that shattered the landscape of the typically peaceful community: an entire family had been slaughtered in their beds. In the days that followed, Ronald Defeo, Jr., confessed to methodically shooting his parents and four siblings with a rifle while they slept, claiming "voices" in the house drove him to commit the grisly murders.

One year later George (Ryan Reynolds) and Kathy Lutz (Melissa George) come across a beautiful river-front colonial home being sold for a steal, they suspect a catch. Once informed that the home was the site of a grisly mass murder, they decide to buy the house anyway and move in, bringing with them Kathy's three children (Jesse James, Jimmy Bennett, Chloe Moretz) from a previous marriage. While no one can deny that the house is rife with spooky sounds, the family members try to put their fears at bay. Shortly after settling in, bizarre and unexplainable events begin to occur. Nightmarish visions and haunting voices from an evil presence are still lurking within the house. Kathy's daughter starts to act bizarrely, ending up in a variety of life-threatening situations, led by her new, not-so-imaginary friend Jody (one of the children slaughtered in the house years before by her older brother). Likewise, something strange seems to be happening to George. His usually sweet demeanour is replaced with a hostile one, and he starts cruelly taking out his aggression on Kathy's children. Kathy's original assumption that a house cannot be evil is challenged as she watches her husband transform into the sort of man that just might be capable of murdering his family.

Rachel Nichols, Philip Baker Hall, Isabel Conner, Brendan Donaldson, Annabel Armour,
Rich Komenich, David Gee, Danny McCarthy, Nancy Lollar, Jose Taitano.
