Richard Pimentel (Ron Livingston) begins his life as a fighter, and his life's work becomes a process of fighting for the rights of others.
Armed with a talent for public speaking and a winning personality, Richard makes his way to a Northwestern college confident that he will ace his try-out for his idol Dr. Ben Padrow (Hector Elizondo). But his dreams are shattered when Dr. Padrow rejects him and Richard immediately enlists in the army for a tour of duty in Vietnam. During combat, the young recruit loses his hearing in a bomb blast - and thus has to deal with his new found disability on his return to civilian life in Oregon.
Richard meets and befriends Art Honneyman, (Michael Sheen), a student wheelchair user with cerebal palsy who uses his rapier wit to deflect the prejudice that greets his disturbing appearance. During the early stages of their friendship Richard discovers that his disability, and the struggle to transcend it, is a defining moment in his fight for what he believes in. He decides to start campaigning for equality in employment for disabled individuals and realises that he can make a difference!
Clint Jung, Marion Ross, Rebecca De Mornay, Janssen Van De Yacht, Paul Michael,
John Livingston, TyZhaun Lewis, Ron Livingston, Melissa George.
Thought this was a really good movie, some places its sad. Has a great story line, based on a true story. Recommend to all who like biographies!!!
