London River

LONDON RIVER - A film by Rachid Bouchareb

‘LONDON RIVER’ will be released on DVD on the 11th October, by Trinity.

Set against the backdrop of the 7th July 2005 bombings, London River tells the story of a friendship which develops between two seemingly unconnected people - Elizabeth (Brenda Bleythn) and Ousmane (Sotigui Kouyate). Both of them have come to London to search for their children who are missing in the aftermath of the bombings.

Although they come from different religious backgrounds - Ousmane is an African Muslim living in France and Elizabeth is a white Christian living in Guernsey, they share the same hope of finding their children alive. Putting aside their cultural differences, they give each other the strength to continue the search and maintain their faith in humanity.

The Lost And Found Family

The story starts with a wealthy woman, Ester (Ellen Bry), losing her husband only to find that he made some bad investments and lost all their money. The only possession left was a house he bought in Ester’s name years before. One catch, a family occupied the house and she would have to live in the house with them until it sold. The family was two foster parents and five kids. Two of the kids were teens that were dealing with issues of their own. Ester was struggling with loneliness and couldn’t understand that her pain was not top priority to any one else. She describes her situation as being just as much of an orphan as the kids. She also discovers that she needs God to bring her through. They all find that caring for someone else and helping them through their problems will bring them closer together.

An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving

In cold, snowy 19th century, post-war New Hampshire, the Bassett family is struggling to keep their heads above water. Living on a tenant farm - with the rent several months past due - recently widowed Mary Bassett (Helene Joy) must put on a brave face with Thanksgiving approaching in two weeks. With the larder empty, and no money to purchase food, let alone a fancy feast to celebrate the holiday, Mary can only smile and suggest they sew a quilt with leftover scraps of clothes to commemorate what's truly important about Thanksgiving: love and family. Dependable middle daughter Prudence (Vivien Endicott Douglas) takes this news stoically, while youngest Solomon (Gage Munroe) still believes that somehow, they'll have a Thanksgiving complete with turkey and pies. His father (Robert Joy) abuses him and his two brothers (Brian Cook & Daniel DeSanto). The boys are placed with the mother. Gregory is placed in a boys ranch after his mother (Kathleen York) can't take care of him and his two brothers. While at the ranch a lawyer visiting the facility meets him. He (Bill Smitrovich)and his wife (Kristin Griffith) decide to adopt him and make him a part of the family. But Gregory can't be adopted until his biological parents lose custody. He divorces his parents from their rights to him.

This story just goes to show what is wrong with the child welfare system. Its not alway best for the child to stay with there parents. He has been abused and neglected along with his to siblings. This is really a good movie, I would recommend it to all.

I watch this movie a couple of years ago. It was really good considering I only watched it because there was nothing else on TV. Its about a woman living wither her nephew and she is retarded. She is picked by researches to test a new drug one that should help her. Gradually it starts to work and she starts getting smarter. Michele Lee plays Dina really well. If you have yet seen this movie I recommend you do!!!
